Cutting off a tree from different Christmas tree farms, erecting it either inside or outside the house, and decorating it are all parts of the modern American family tradition of celebrating the Yuletide holidays. Christmas trees, despite of being a part of the pagan practice during the early years, are now one of the more popular symbols of hope and love inside the family.
Aside from the typical evergreen and coniferous trees that are used in celebrating Christmas, there are also deviations made to further make Christmas a unique event among other holidays in year. In 1958, Ben Franklin asked Richard Thomsen, then engineer of the Aluminum Specialty Company, if he can make an aluminum Christmas tree.
Soon, it became famous among different American communities. The first aluminum tree appeared in Chattanooga in 1960. It also facilitated the Christmas tree lighting contest in Chattanooga wherein different families would ride around the town just to get a glimpse of the aluminum Christmas tree displays decorated with spinning color wheels and other majestic decorations.
