The use of C5 led Christmas tree lights to

predates Christianity.
In this dark time of the year when nature was dormant and the earth was

was seen as a turning point in the year. It was a way to herald the turning of

The inventor of the electric light bulb was Thomas A. Edison, but it was the
vice president of his company, the Edison Electric Light Company, a certain man
named Edward H. Johnson, who came up with the concept. He decided to replace

string appeared on his Christmas tree in December of 1882.
It consisted of a string of eighty incandescent bulbs, no larger than walnuts
and in shades of red, white and blue. These early versions were too expensive
for the average citizen and it was not until 1930 that the average home maker
could afford strings of Christmas lights.

colors and designs to the general public in a format that used a minimal amount
of electricity. This version is also without the fire hazard posed by
traditional candles and is a very cost effective option.
