German Christmas Tree Ornaments

Different ornaments complete the overall appearance and structure of a Christmas tree. There you have the huge star placed at the tip of the tree (which symbolizes the star that became the guide of the three kings to the manger where Jesus Christ was born) and other different ornaments around the tree such as angels, snowman, candies, Santa Claus icons, snowflakes, blinking Christmas lights, and homemade Christmas tree ornaments.

If you are an American, you are familiar with the usual figurative ornaments that are used in decorating a typical Christmas tree. Even the Christmas tree that is used inside the White House every Yuletide season probably also has the ornaments that you have in your own Christmas tree.

How about in a German Christmas tree though? Do you have any idea of what ornaments they place on their trees?

If you will have a glimpse on how Germans decorate their Christmas trees, you will notice that they almost place the same stuff that you place in your own Christmas tree. However, what you do not know is that some of the ornaments that you may probably use actually originated from Germany.

One of which are the glass balls, which originated from the German state of Thuringia, which is known in the late 16th century as the small German town of Lauscha. This German town is the home of glassmaking for as early as the 12th century, and is known for its glass-blowing.

The German Tinsel is another ornament originated from Germany. This ornament is made out of thin silver strips that are used as part of a candle ornament. Tinsel is commonly used not only in Europe and American continents but in other continents as well.

German Christmas tree ornaments are already a part of our tradition. Without the glass balls and the tinsels, probably our Christmas tree would be incomplete.
