Lowe's Christmas Trees: A Tradition Worth Fighting For

There was some controversy for awhile regarding the Lowe's Christmas Trees name. Retailers were banning together to become more politically correct and decided to all name there Christmas trees "holiday trees". Lowe's hand decided to jump on this bandwagon at the time. Lowe's renamed there Christmas trees Lowe's Holiday Trees, and they had called them that for awhile. This occurred sometime before the Christmas season of 2005.

In November of 2005, partly with influence by the American Family Association (AFA, a group that fights to see that family values are respected) the Lowe's Holiday Trees name was restored to the name Lowe's Christmas Trees. The American Family Association was influential in the restoration of Lowe's Christmas Trees, and now Lowe's no longer refers to their trees as holiday trees.

After a group of AFA supporters contacted Lowe's, they had made a variety of changes such as removing a Holiday Trees banner from their storefront. The AFA had also written a press release that states their intent to refer to the so-called holiday trees as Christmas trees. This was the AFA's way to stand up for what they believe in and not allow someone to interfere with their right to refer to the trees as what they would want.

The AFA has not only influenced changes regarding Lowe's Christmas trees and their retail market campaign for Christmas trees. They have also managed to cause changes to happen in other stores as well. For instance, a group of AFA members boycotted Federated Stores because the retail had banned "Merry Christmas" from being used in their advertisements.

The AFA's efforts actually convinced the Federated Stores that they should use "Merry Christmas in their stores. This was the AFA's way of making sure that Christ remains in Christmas. Therefore, when retailers go shopping this year they can expect to here more of "Merry Christmas" and to find trees referred to as "Christmas Trees". You of course will also find Lowe's Christmas Trees and not Lowe's Holiday Trees this year. This is great news for people who want to see Lowe's live Christmas tree shows, as well as for those who want to stick to the tradition of using Christmas trees in order to celebrate Christmas.
