Pattern for a Christmas Tree Skirt
Making a Christmas tree skirt is an easy project. All you need is to prepare the following materials:
1. a printed fabric (choose those with Christmas prints)
2. lace for design in case you don’t want to put any ruffles
3. thread
4. a serger preferably with a rolled hem plate
After you have gathered all the materials, then you may start making your Christmas tree skirt. But first, you need to figure out the size of your tree skirt. Generally Christmas tree skirts are measured in such a way that it will extend 1 yard from the base of the tree.
The next step is to choose at least four yards of a forty-five inch wide material of your chosen Christmas printed fabric. Then choose trimmings like cords, beads, tassels or other materials you wish to add to your Christmas skirt.
You have to cut the four yard Christmas printed fabric in half to get two rectangular pieces of fabric measuring two yards each. Pin the right sides of the two fabrics together and then sew a thirty-six inch seam along one of the edge of the fabric. The not sewn portion of the fabrics will provide the opening for the skirt.
The next step involves the folding of the fabric in half, specifically the lengthwise part. You have to fold the fabric at the point where you sew the seam. At this stage you should have a created a rectangle part that is four layers thick.
Put one of the yardstick’s ends on the top, you may also use it in making circular marks which extends 36 inches from the top on the edges of the fabric.
Lastly, another circular mark has to be made, only 3 inches on the top. This will serve as the center opening of the skirt.
