Why Do We Have Christmas Trees and the Joy It Brings?

Do you know why we have Christmas Trees, why we decorate them and what it symbolizes?

According to the legend, a monk from Devonshire went to Germany to spread the words of God and there, he did many good deeds. He used the shape of a Fir tree, which is triangular, to show the Holy Trinity (God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit). By then, Christian people started to regard the Fir tree as the tree of God and the symbol of Christianity and hang them every Christmas. The very first decorated Christmas tree was in 1510 at Riga, Latvia.

Well obviously, when we talk of Christmas, the first thing that comes into our minds is the Christmas tree. It is always the center and most recognized decoration and image of this holiday season. This is where we pile and exchange our gifts, and the place where we sing together our favorite Christmas carols and wait for the Christmas Eve. This is why we do have Christmas Trees in our homes. It unites us in its small and simple way. By just looking up on it, we can feel the true meaning and spirit of Christmas together with our families and love ones.

Christmas trees have two types, the artificial and the real ones. In United States, some of the best selling trees are Douglas fir, Fraser fir, Scotch pine, white pine, Virginia pine, Noble fir and Balsam fir. Some prefer to use true trees but mostly are contented with imitations for it can still be used for the next Christmases to come
